Study Abroad Course FAQs
Here are a list of some frequently asked questions by students looking to study abroad in the CEAT Program.
- What is a CEAT Faculty Led Study Abroad course?The College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology offers courses with a travel portion during University breaks, including spring break, winter break, and summer break. These courses include pre-departure meetings held on campus in addition to the travel period. Students are required to complete assignments just as they would in any other OSU credit course. Most of these courses are worth 3 credit hours.
- When do the pre-departure class meetings occur for my study abroad course and what
happens in these meetings?Typically, the Program Leaders/ Instructors will try find a time when all students can meet, usually in the evenings, a few weeks prior to departure to discuss course expectations, culture, and course assignments.
- How early should I be thinking about studying abroad?It is advisable to begin planning at least a year in advance to allow for early planning to save money and provides ample time to secure a passport. Consult with your advisor to determine how the course will fit into your degree program.
- How do I apply for a CEAT Study Abroad course?
All of our courses for this academic year are listed here. Click on the course to get more information and if you are ready to apply, click the “apply here” button to log into your online study abroad portal. You will need to apply for the course prior to enrolling for it in banner. If you have any questions about the process, contact ceatstudyabroad@okstate.edu.
- Can I apply for the program without a passport?Yes, but it is highly recommended to obtain your U.S. passport as soon as possible to ensure you can partake in the program. If you have a passport already be sure it will have 6 months left after your program.
- How will I know if I am accepted into the CEAT Study Abroad Faculty Led program?Once your application has been successfully completed and submitted, you will receive an email of your status within 1-5 days.
- Can I take a CEAT Study Abroad course if I’m not a CEAT student?
Of course! We welcome any enrolled OSU student including students from OSU OKC & OSU Tulsa. It is recommended you speak with your advisor to determine how this course can best fit into your degree requirements.
*Note: If the course is capped, acceptance will be based on application timing and CEAT students will be given priority.
- How does the CEAT Study Abroad course count towards my degree requirements?Depending on what your major is; it can count for your 4000 level elective or your “I” credit. Or you can study abroad with us several times and have it count for each. Although, it is recommended you speak with your advisor on how this can best suit your major.
- How do I enroll in the course?You will have to be accepted into the program first then given an override by the CEAT Study Abroad Office to enroll in the course. Once this occurs you should be sent an email allowing you to register.
- How do I pay the course costs?All costs that are included in the price will be charged to your Bursar account.
- Does block tuition rate apply to CEAT Study Abroad courses?No, block tuition does not apply to CEAT Study Abroad courses. To learn more information about block tuition, click here.
- What is included in the program cost?
Each course page will have more detail on your program costs but typically the below items will be included;
- Tuition (3 credit hours)
- Lodging (double or triple rooms)
- In country transportation
- Some meals (usually every breakfast while abroad)
- Entry fees for group tours and site visits
- Health and Travel insurance
- Are there scholarships available?

- Can I receive financial aid?Yes, you are eligible for financial aid since this is an OSU course. Check with the Financial Aid Office for more information.
- Can I extend my time abroad?
Yes, just note that you are still required to attend all activities as it is required of the course but once it is time for the group to depart, you are welcome to stay or explore another area.
Note: You will be responsible for housing, activities and food while staying after. You will be required to fill out a form within your online study abroad portal about where you intend to travel to for safety reasons.
- Can I do a study abroad and an internship in the summer?Yes! We understand that several students partake in internships over the summer and schedule our summer study abroad courses to take place in early summer allowing for you to get back for your internship. If the course does delay your internship, be sure to speak with your supervisor.
- What do I do if I have to withdraw after I have already committed to the course?
