Laptop Specifications
Architecture or Architectural Engineering
Laptop specifications for Architecture students are published by the School of Architecture. The 2024-25 flyer is currently being reviewed. Listed below is a summary of specifications.
- O/S: Windows 10 or 11
- CPU: Intel Core i7 or better, or AMD equivalent
- RAM: 16GB or better
- Graphics: NVIDIA GPU with at least 4GB vRAM
- Storage: 512GB or larger SSD
- Review the School of Architecture publication may list additional required accessories
- NOTE: Students seeking a Bachelor of Architecture (BAR) degree will need to upgrade their computer in year three.
MAE or MET
- O/S: Windows 10 or 11
- CPU: Intel Core i7 or better, or AMD equivalent
- RAM: 16GB or better
- Graphics: NVIDIA GPU with at least 8GB vRAM
- Verify your video card is certified with AutoCAD and Solidworks
- HD: 512GB or larger SSD
All Other Engineering or Technology Majors
- O/S: Windows 10 or 11
- CPU: Intel Core i7 or better, or AMD equivalent
- RAM: 16GB or better
- Graphics: Integrated graphics
- Note: integrated graphics are not officially supported by SolidWorks
- HD: 512GB or larger SSD
MACINTOSH Warning
Because nearly all CEAT software is Windows-based, Macs are not recommended for use in CEAT degree programs. If students choose to purchase a Mac, they need a very high-end system, with at least the following specs and requirements:
- Must purchase Parallels virtualization software
- Must obtain a licensed copy of Windows to run on Parallels.
- CPU: M2 or better
- RAM: 32GB or better
- Storage: 1TB SSD
NOTE: Attempting to run Windows-only, high performance software such as SolidWorks may yield inconsistent results.
CEAT Checkout Laptop Program
Laptops are available for short term check out.
Check out/in hours:
9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday
Check out laptops run Windows 10 Enterprise and can run CEAT required software. The
following programs are preinstalled:
- Solidworks
- Chrome
- Office 365
Additional CEAT software can be requested.
Check out and software installation is granted on a case-by-case basis for a limited amount of time per person per semester.
To check out a laptop a student must be enrolled in a CEAT degree and agree to the
terms and conditions of the Checkout Laptop Agreement.
